"My wife and I have owned a 1930s duplex and have had problems with intermittent water and dampness in the basement for the 25 plus years we have lived here. Now in the process of remodeling our basement, we needed to deal with the water issue.
We decided the first step was to replace the cracked sidewalk, where water was running down and over the edge between the sidewalk and the basement wall. The sidewalk also slanted toward the house, was no longer sealed to the basement wall, and had too shallow a depression to carry water down the sidewalk. But the worst area was at the front corner where the downspout contributed to the amount of water and the concrete was rotten and porous.
Jefferson Concrete came in and solved the problem for us. Besides providing us with an attractive stamped and colored sidewalk that has no cracks, they ran the new sidewalk up to the basement wall so any remaining gaps could be caulked and they transformed the front corner. Not only did they replace the porous concrete at the corner and create a deeper channel in the sidewalk for the water flow, they also extended the edge of the sidewalk and installed a grate and piping system to carry water from the sidewalk and downspout away and out to the street.
The concrete work done by Jefferson Concrete is the single biggest contributing factor to our dry basement, and the end result was very attractive and has added a lot to our curb appeal."
